The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug

The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug (2013)

I quite enjoyed the first Hobbit so I am of course ready for the second cash grab...I mean, I mean "sequel."

Hopefully if you didn't like the first Hobbit (understandable) then you'll like Desolation better as it offers a stronger structural narrative as well as set pieces and fleshing out of the story. At many parts the film seems like a video game it looks so fluid and...dreamlike. The film still has a bit of a boring feel blanketing it, even when the action on the screen is strong, but it points toward what will hopefully be a blowout finale. The addition of the female elf along with the fleshing out of the Laketown portion of the story was a good call in my opinion. Ed Sheeran's inspiring song at the immediate start of the credits almost justifies the film's lengthy run time, lol.
