WOW! From the opening scene and the first interaction between the unconventional, sadistic teacher and the young, ambitious student,I knew this was going to be an incredible movie! J.K.Simmons owned every scene he was in. It's no wonder he won the Oscar. Easily the best movie of pushing yourself beyond your limits to achieve perfection I've seen since Black Swan.
The owner of an oil company purchases a prime location for his growing business. All the while, his fleet of vehicles are being held up for their oil. Between that and the company being under scrutiny for faulty records ,this adds to the stress of a moral obligation which takes it's toll on his employees, company and his marriage. With strong performances from both Oscar Issac and Jessica Chastain, this is a slow burning, compelling drama about achieving the American dream.
Just might be the best movie of the year NOT nominated for any Oscars!
So,a galaxy outlaw who's a legend in his own mind and has a thing for all things retro, steals a mini death star that if it landed in the wrong hands, could destroy the galaxy? That's the long and short of this absurd Marvel movie. Zoe Saldana plays a green Avatar this time around and Vin Diesel is a walking talking tree with a 3 word vocabulary. How appropriate is that? Most of his acting is wooden anyway,so the irony is not lost on me.
This was like the clunky version of The Avengers with worse dialogue, character development, and it was trying too hard to be overly funny.
If you would've told me 5 or 6 years ago that someone from The Wolf Pack would turn out to be a great actor,I would've laughed in your face. But such is the case with Bradley Cooper in American Sniper. Through each of his tours in Iraq, you can see him become more distant and disconnected from his family and the ones he loves.
Each tour gets more intense than the last one and Clint Eastwood may have topped himself once again. Certainly his best movie since Mystic River.
