James Cameron must be the most overrated director ever. Almost every single one of his movies are overhyped and underachieve almost every time. Avatar, supposedly the most visually spectacular film ever ends up being a boring cartoon. Literally, 2 hours of its incredibly long run time is blue CGI creatures running around a CGI world. The story is so weak its laughable. The ruthless military commander strikes again, didn't see that one coming. And since there isn't really any acting to comment on since most of the movie is a cartoon, what else is there to say. Avatar is a boring, CGI ridden movie with a laughable plot and no acting unless you count Sam Worthington moping around when he's not inside his machine. What a waste of a film.
An improvement over the first, but Catching Fire is still hindered by some of the same storytelling issues found in the first film. Not knowing what is going on inside Katniss' head makes here decision making seem distant and removes the audience from the story. However, the overall storyline is far more compelling, as the stakes are much higher and the games are much grander. The cinematography is greatly improved as well. A much watch for fans of the first film.
An definitive improvement over the first in visual sense. Thor 2 ups the stakes and provides solid, nonstop action throughout the film. However, in terms of plot, this Thor suffers from a narrative focussing far too much of its time on Jane Foster, whose character is dragged and pulled all over the universe like a rag doll. The best moments of the film are by far the one's with Loki and it only leaves the audience wanting more of him and less from the cringe inducing moments with Kat and her 'intern'. The dark elves work fine in providing some genuinely dangerous villains that the first Thor was lacking. Chris Hemsworth and the Asgardian cast work perfectly. Overall, a good superhero film, but not a must see.
