So much better than the 1984 movie. The miniseries followed the book quite well. And there were no stupid sonic weapons like in the 1984 movie! Great costuming, sets, and special effects. The only really bad part is the fake looking mouse. (Couldn't they afford to get a real live one?)
It was only an hour and 47 minutes long but it seemed like a very very long movie. I felt like I was getting stupider and stupider the longer I watched. But a part of me wanted to keep watching to see if it could possibly get any worse. I guess watching the movie was useful in that it reminded me why I should avoid watching comedies, even if they have an 84% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
I thought the moral of the story was kind of wrong: (1) Commit a big crime. (2) Get away with $300,000. (3) Serve your time and go straight but keep all your stolen money. (4) Be rich and live happily ever after.
Most poor criminals never strike it rich and can't follow this plan.
I hate silent films. I can't stand the overacting. I prefer color films to black and white films, although there are some excellent black and white films. We have the technology to make color films that are talkies. So think that is what should be made. I think most of the critics who talk like this film is so wonderful have never seen a silent film before. But I have seen lots of them, and it is not a novelty to me. So this film was well-made, they just made something in a category that I do not like.
