Coming from the studio that brought us Coraline, I was expecting much more from ParaNorman. It's beautifully produced, but i wouldn't call it "solidly scripted." Being a movie about zombies, you'd expect at least three pulpy action scenes, leading to an unimaginable conclusion, yet about 30 minutes into the movie you already know [SPOILER ALERT!] these zombies aren't hungry for brains, but the script insists in making them seem flesh eaters.
Besides, that same script has some unforgivable clichà (C)s such as "I'm proud of you, son" and "we're together in this." Sure it has some nice twists and fresh humor, but it never really uses up all the potential its main premise has.
