I am an avid moviegoer and I want to someday to be an author/screenwriter. My favorite band is The Beatles. The easiest movie genre for me to like is gritty, gory, acton flicks. But don't get me wrong, there are a few dramas out there that have kept my interest and that I actually like. My favorite movie of all time is Saving Private Ryan, which is a blend of action and drama. Super hero movies are another one of my favorites, as long as they're done right. Captain America is my favorite Avenger and probably the only Marvel character who is better than him to me is Spider-Man. Favorite DC character, hands down Batman. Well...there you have it.
This installment of the Iron Man series was pretty good. I thought that the movie had more of Tony Stark's character than the other two movies and I enjoyed that. The action was great, the humor was funny and it was all well acted. However, I was not a big fan of the Mandarin twist. I've never read an Iron Man comic in my life and I never watched Iron Man cartoons, so I wasn't disappointed from a fanboy perspective. I just thought that the twist was unnecessary, especially given the fact that the Mandarin was really cool in the first half of the movie and was definitely the strongest Iron Man villain of the trilogy. But, the direction they took with it was just unnecessary and it weakened the movie in my opinion. But, other than that unfortunate twist, I liked this movie. It's not great, but it was very good. I will gladly see this movie again and I'll happily buy it on Blu-ray when it comes out. It's not better than the original Iron Man or The Avengers, but it's still a fun time. Grade: B+
This movie is great. Stallone plays the character like he's an actual human being with emotions (unlike the sequels). What starts off as an exciting game of cat and mouse through a large forest very suddenly turns into a deep message about what returning Vietnam vets had to experience. It's just a great movie.
