Saw this film on 23/05/2013
My friends in RT would know that I am not a person who gives too much of bad review/ratings. Think about a film, an action film which I didn't give a good review. Bad Boys(1995) is my favourite buddy cop movie of all time. I expected nothing from that film and I got a great result. I liked it even more that Jackie Chan's buddy movies. What I liked about that film is not the action scenes, of course they were good, but it was the comedy that made me like it. I nearly laughed to death when I saw that film. Now on the second instalment, Bay took away something that I really liked about the first film, the comedy. Frankly there wasn't even a single good slapstick comedy in here. I tried to pretend that I was laughing and having fun, that left me in even more vain.
There are a few good action scenes in the beginning of the film, they are all eye candy and Michael Bay'ish. But I liked a lot of them. Do you believe that Bad Boys 2 is the most violent movie from Michael Bay, even violent than The Rock (1996)! Then yes it is. Of all the Bay movies, only this one and Pearl Harbour(2001) disappointed me. You should see that Bad Boys(1995) was not at all violent. This time Michael Bay throws at you dead bodies, their internal organs, bloodshed, ultra violence combined with logic less action scenes, bad dialogues and nudity( can you believe that!, I never expected nudity from a Michael Bay movie, though it was good and it is just my guilty pleasure). In fact I never expected any of the above mentioned things from a Bay movie, especially from a sequel to one of my favourite Michael Bay movie.
There are a lot of vulgar scenes from this movie, I mean like exposing the internal organs of people. The lack of fun is mostly jelled logic less action scenes, especially in the climax. Up till the climax, all the violence was all right, but then it is just stupid large scale explosions and a scene where the Bad Boys drive their car through an entire slum colony in Cuba. It made me wonder whether there were any civilisation and settlement. Anyway it was fun watching this film, it didn't bore me. I wasn't satisfied and it left a deep void. Also there is an actor I liked very much in the first film, he is Joe Pantoliano (Captain Howard) who was very funny and hilarious. Micahel Bay failed to find proper time to give this actor screen space within his 2 and a 1/2 hour overlong piece of shit. I don't really know what Peter Storemare was doing in this film. I also missed Theresa Randle (Theresa Burnett) in this film, another actor who got no screen time at all.
This time the Bad Boys are simply fighting with each other which doesn't show much of an emotional attachment and chemistry b/w the two that was a winning factor of the first film. Also the thrills are slow motion scenes from the first film are almost missing. Bad Boys is well choreographed, but this film is filled with unnecessary fast edits from Bay and there by failing to give you an impression of watching a movie. Also the film lacks a potent and good looking actress. Tea Leoni was really good in the first film and I really liked her in that. Gabrielle Union is ugly and makes me feel like I want to vomit every time I see her onscreen. Had Michael Bay retained just the humour from the first film alone and added all the other things that I mentioned above, I would have liked this one a lot more.
I am more of a faint heart, I don't like much of violence. Die hard action fans and people who like the first one very much for reasons that I have not mentioned and people who do not miss much of the things from the first that I mentioned can really like this one. I think I am more like a loner here cause Bad Boys 2 have more fans than the first film.
