    The Graduate

    The Graduate (1967)

    Grade: E

Give me as many thumbs down as you like, but I'm not really a fan of the graduate; I found it to be very overrated. I didn't particularly like Dustin Hoffman in this film; I found him to be a bit gormless, charmless and smarmy. The film is about a young college graduate, Benjamin Braddock, who is seduced by his parent's friend, Mrs Robinson, a married woman a lot older than him. However when he meets the Robison's daughter Elaine he begins to fall for her, but his secret fling with Mrs Robinson looms over him and threatens to ruin everything. I just found the film a bit monotone and dull; I didn't really like or care for any of the characters. I felt that the music made the film seem even more gloomy, no disrespect to Simon and Garfunkel. I also thought that the chemistry between Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft and Hoffman and Katherine Ross, wasn't really there. The Graduate is just a bleak and charmingless film, that is most definitely overated. I didn't really like very much about this film. It was watcheable but that was it.
