Exclamation Best Selling Video Games of all Time

Does anyone know where I can find a list of the best selling video games of all time? I'm doing a speech on video games tomorrow so I was wondering if anyone could help me out so I couldn include it in my speech.

Do you mean 30 million copies? . . . cuz then I might buy your argument. But I know for a fact that the GTA games have sold over 10 million between the last two releases, and Donkey Kong Country for the SNES sold 7-8 million upon first release.

It's kinda hard to gauge since the top selling lists usually include pack-ins.. and if those are included, then Super Mario Bros. at 40 million and Tetris at 33 million are the top 2. The highest selling game to never be packed in was Super Mario Bros. 3 for NES. Super Mario World was packed in some so it's 20 million in sales have an asterisk next to them as well.

I think he's only talking about PC games, but then I'm still not sure if he's right. Here's the best I could do for a top-selling all-time list. It's from GameState magazine:

1. "Super Mario Bros." for NES: 40 Million Units
2. "Tetris" for Gameboy: 33 Million Units
3. "Super Mario Bros. 3" for NES: 18 Million Units
4. "Super Mario World" for SNES: 17 Million Units
5. "Super Mario Land" for Gameboy: 14 Million Units
6. "Super Mario 64" for N64: 11 Million Units
7. "The Sims" for PC: 10 Million Units
8. "Super Mario Bros. 2" for NES: 10 Million Units
9. "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" for PS2: 8.5 Million Units
10. "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" for PSX: 8 Million Units
11. "GoldenEye" for N64: 8 Million Units
12. "Donkey Kong Country" for SNES: 8 Million Units
13. "Super Mario Kart" for SNES: 8 Million Units
14. "Pokemon Red/Blue" for Gameboy: 8 Million Units
15. "Half-Life" for PC: 8 Million Units
16. "Tomb Raider II" for PSX: 8 Million Units
17. "Final Fantasy VII" for PSX: 7.8 Million Units
18. "Myst" for PC: 7 Million Units
19. "Gran Turismo 3" for PS2: 7 Million Units
20. "Dragon Warrior VII" for PS2: 6 Million Units

I have no idea how accurate/inaccurate this list is, as some of the Mario's are bundled with their respective consoles, but it's all I could find.

Some are accurate/inaccurate. I kinda forgot Pokémon Red+Blue/Green(what became Blue over here)+Yellow -- that right there is the highest non-pack in title with sales of over 30 million in the US and Japan alone, combined. Sales figures are always difficult to gauge for Europe since we dont get particularly good sales charts, but I know that they did over 10 million in Europe as well, so it's total is over 40 million. The Pokémon series as a whole has moved over 120 million units since its inception less than a decade ago O_O

Thanks for that list on the top video games. I'll use that in my speech. I had a feeling that a Mario game would be at the top.

My boyfriend is begging me to buy Super Mario Sunshine for my new Gamecube (I got it on Sunday, and I got Animal Crossing because that's the whole reason I wanted the Gamecube). The reason my boyfriend wants me to get it so much is that he heard its a lot like Super Mario 64. True or false?

Both. Gameplay is similar, but alot tighter (i.e. better). It also has the same principles: enter a world, select a mission, complete it for a star (or in this case, a shine sprite). Where it differs is that Mario wears FLUDD on his back, a weird, talking water contraption that can shoot water out of a nozzle for defeating enemies/cleaning the sludge, be used as a short-term jetpack, or be used as a rocket to jump incredibly high. It's implemented very well and feels intuitive. It also differs drastically in it's presentation. The entire game is vacation-themed, and takes place on a resort island. The different worlds are made up of the island's port, beach, hotel resort, amusement park, etc. The game itself is meant as a sort of vacation from the regular Mario settings, something completely different for a change. I think it made for a wonderful title, others would disagree.

I love sitting there and watching my man play SM64. I'll definately be picking up Sunshine. Thanks for the description of it. I can't wait to get it now! :-) That and Mario Golf. Gah, if it only wasn't 50 bucks still. *sighs*

The best selling PC game of all time is The Sims. That is a fact.

The best selling video game of all time is either SMB or SMB3 I forget which one. I think it's SMB3 since it wasn't bundled with the NES and wasn't a flagship title.

Tetris (NES) is also up there.

Not a single good answer so far

Go to this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Best_selling_game

Or this link: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...5212816AAkcDXc

I would go with the first link, because wikipedia.org should be more accurate than a reply in Yahoo Answers. But you can decide for yourself.

Sheesh, my answer is the first real answer. How hard is it to refer some links?

Maybe he's actually living in 2003?

in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock. So long Holly.

Another thing that's interesting-- The Sims wasn't released in Japan, at all. That's surprising, considering EA's penchant for cash money, and the "meta" aspect of the game, which I think Japan would totally go for. I can only imagine how much higher it would have been on the list had it been released (and be popular) there.

8 of the top ten best sellers are Mario games....wow, no wonder Nintendo keeps shoving this franchise down gamers throats.
