Favorite Part of the entire Trilogy?

Probably a lot of people have different parts but it's funny, I wouldn't expect it to be, but my favorite part is still in Moria when the drums start up and they get chased and have to fight in that underdark plus the Balrog was so well done.

As far as within each movie I'd pick Gollum's two sides talking to each other for the first time in the Two Towers and Gandalf stopping the Nazgul from killing the fleeing soldiers with that light as he rode forth, that was really good (although also liked Aragorn turning around and running at the army of Mordor at the Black Gate)

My favorite part was probably Sam's speech towards the end of The Two Towers

When Gandalf is fighting at the Black Gate and he suddenly stops and sees the moth. It took me totally by suprise because I forgot all about the Eagles. I also thought it was cool how the music for that sequence was the same as the music for the moth in Fellowship.

oooh... that's like choosing who is your favoritest child... not that I know what that is like.... (and for some I guess that's not very hard... like Denethor)

I might have to choose when Gandalf says to Frodo "That is not for us to decide... all we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us" I've never been so inspired by a movie. This movie really made me wanna do something meaningful and important with my life. I have to admit, though, my actions have yet to reflect this.

The other moment might be the scene with Galadriel. It was just so very eerily done how she singled Frodo out among the Fellowship in Lothlorien. And then when he looks into the well and she goes spooky, it just had an incredible effect on me.

The other might have to be Frodo and Sam at the 'end of all things'.

Best cinematic shot:

The shot of Gollum's face after Frodo says "Smeagol was your name, wasn't it"

Gandalf's reaction to Frodo's "I will take it. I will take the ring to Mordor. Though I do not know the way."

When Gandalf et al charge down the hill at the end of TTT.

When Gandalf lights his staff out on the plain to fend off the Nazgul. I don't even remember what's going on in this scene, is this the beginning of the Pelennor battle?, but it is so beautiful with such subtle undersated power - so sublime. I've always wondered what sublime is. I've known what the definition is, but I had never experienced it before. I did with this shot.

When Gandalf enters frame. (there, that should cut down on space. )

And of course, Gollum' glee plastered all over his pitiful face as he topples backward into the molten fire.

Galadriel's gift-giving scene. I never felt so much hope then after I saw that scene. I believed that she would always be there to protect the fellowship, wherever they may end up. Plus, Blanchett is the most beautiful elf EVER in that scene.

I loved the part where the hobbits run towards the black gate...before the entire freakin' army of Gondor. What a moment.
I liked that in the book more in the movie. I had a greater sense of imminent doom in the book than I did in the movie. Still, very well done. They could have sold it more that they were all gonna die, cut right as they all get clobbered by orc claw and lance when "we" suddenly swoop over to Mt. Doom to show the final confrontation and struggle and then cut back to them at the battle right after the ring is destroyed to show as they are in the midst of being smitten down, the orcs and armies of Mordor retract and wither in fear and shame as the earth beneath them crubmles to dust (and their reactions [Aragorn's mainly] of awe, hope and elucidation. Then we cut back to the eagles flying toward the battle (one swooping down to scoop up Gandalf) then cut back to Frodo and Sam marooned on that lava berg waiting for death. That woulda been cooler.

Hmmm. It's tough to choose a single scene. The lighting of the beacons is up there...

Another scene that stands out for me, although it's a tiny, minor scene, is when the Rohan woman in TTT is putting her two kids on a horse and sending them off to safety as the wild men approach and begin burning the village. The little girl made that scene so believable—very poignant. I have kids, so that might be part of the reason that the scene struck a chord with me.

Oh, and anytime the hobbits were cooking up something in that frying pan. Mmmm. I'd like to have those guys at my next football pre-game party!

Very difficult to choose but i'd go with a top 3 of....

1.Sam's speach in TTT
2.Faramir's suicide charge in ROTK
3.Bilbo giving up the ring at bagend in FOTR

I'll have to go with the blue light special at Minas Morgul in RotK. I can't wait to hear that on my surround sound. After the explosion, the Witch King flies out there and unleashes one heck of a banshee scream. WOW.

The Rohan cavalry charge toward the white city is also spectacular.

Have to agree with you there. That scream was hurtin' my Dad's ears, but I made him like it when I explained that he was feeling what Frodo, Sam and Gollum were feeling at the time.
My favorite part though, and I'm pretty sure it's because this is such an iconic "movie" moment, is Gandalf versus the Balrog in Fellowship. "You shall not pass!", that and what ensues are some of my favorite scenes in film. Period.

My favorite partS of the trilogy:

>The openning battle sequence in the FOTR between the Last Alliance of Men & Elves versus Sauron's minions (loved the scale of the scene).

>Aragorn and the Elves rushing to meet the Uruk-Hai at the breached wall at Helms Deep (any scene showing Elves fighting, besides just Legolas, was cool to watch. And I loved the long shot in this scene).

>Gandalf and the Riders of Rohan charging down the hill to Helms Deep (fantastic music, chills galore).

>Faramir and the Gondorian calvary charge on Oslgiath (I dig any scene where multiple points of view are interchanged within the same moment in time).

There's many more, but these are the major ones that always stick in my mind.

Becoming a bit cliche, but mine also is Gandalf vs. Balrog. The first trailer, with Gandalf shouting "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!", just blew me away, since Moria was my favorite part of the books and the BBC radio drama.

so much to like in these films.

high on the list would be boromir's defense of merry and pippen against the uruk-hai in fotr. i was almost crying, and i dont cry at movies anymore, not since i was 12 or so.

the scene on weathertop in fotr.

the battle in balin's tomb in moria in fotr.

i didn't really have too many moments in the two towers that truly stood out except for how jackson handled gandalf's rebirth. really liked that scene.

'but i can carry you' along with the music swell at that point in rotk is another almost cry moment.

'for frodo', another one.

the ENTIRE ending, all 15 minutes of it or so, from rotk. just beautiful, incredible ending.

those are my favorites i think.

fotr 9.5/10
fotr ee 9.9/10
ttt 8.9/10
ttt ee 9.4/10
rotk 9.8/10
rotk ee im sure will be a 10.1 on my list.

Yep, this is my favorite. It was just hilarious the times when I saw the movie (after the first time) right before the light went up, it sounded like the film getting caught in the projector. People would look around for a second, then WOOM!!! jump in their seats when the signal went up.

Oh, come on man. This isn't even fair.

Umm, where to start, where to start?

The stampeding river consuming the RingWraiths in FOTR.

Descending the steps in flight of the Balrog in Moria--in fact, all of Moria, especially Gandalf's speech.

The last stand of Boromir and his final words to Aragorn: "My brother, my captain...my king," or something like that. In retrospect, it's just earth-shatteringly dramatic.

"'Don't leave him Samwise Gamgee' and I don't mean to, I don't mean to!"

The opening sequence in The Two Towers--so artistic. Gliding over the snow-capped mountains until we dive in to the heart of the Mines to witness one of the most amazing battles in the history of cinema.

The assault of the warg-writhes on the caravan. (How can you not love Legolas mounting the horse?)

Gollum's soliloquy. ("You don't have any friends, nobody like you!")

The "breath before the plunge of the battle of Helm's Deep." Every time the lightning strikes and we can see the host of besieging uruk-hai, I get chills anticipating the battle that's to come.

The ride of the Rohirrim led by Gandalf, downwards to overwhelm Saurman's army. The rising sun, Gandalf's battle roar...man oh man...it may be my favorite part of the trilogy.

The Last March of the Ents and their attack on Isengard.

Sam's speech.

The lighting of the beacons, wow.

Pippin's pledge to Denethor in debt of Boromir's life.

Gandalf blinding the RingWraiths on the fields of Pelennor.

When Sauron's army marches out of Minas Morgul led by the Witch King.

Faramir's words to Gandalf before he leaves for his suicide charge, "If my alliegance lies not here, where does it lie?" (or something to that effect). Very powerful words.

The firing of the trebuches defending Gondor and the shots of the diving RingWraiths from high above.

Theoden's speech to his army before their charge..."Ride now, Ride, Ride to Ruin and the World's Ending!"

Rohirrim Vs. Mumakil.

Eowyn Vs. The Witch King.

Legolas Vs. Mumakil.

"For Frodo."

Sam's powerful words on the slopes of Mt. Doom. "I can't carry it for you...but I CAN carry you!"

Stupid dancing Gollum. Man, I love that guy.

On top of Gondor at the coronation of the King, where Aragorn tells the hobbits "My friends, you bow to no one" and the hobbits are left standing there, for once, taller than everyone around them.

Well, there you go ladies and gents. So much for one favorite part. I will miss looking forward to these films every winter. I will miss the best entertainment I've ever had in my life, and these adventures to Middle Earth that have shown me what film can really accomplish--how powerful it can be.
I hold out that they'll make a hobbit so that one last time, we'll get to see Gandalf's familiar smirk and visit some of the characters that seem to have become our friends over the years.

ive decided i am going to be furious if jackson doesnt get the best director oscar and best picture oscar this year. it will truly be a travesty if he gets shafted....

i dont think he deserved it for fotr and ttt... but this can be like a culmination. it can be like giving him the oscar for the whole trilogy.

of course it doesnt stand a chance for best adaptation. but who knows...

My favorite part would have to be at Aragorn's coronation when he walks up to the hobbits and tells them, "My Friends, you bow to no one." That has got to be one of the most touching parts of the movies.

I also enjoyed Pippin's Song. It was beautiful.

Wah...

Gosh, just reading all of those makes me wanna cry... ALL of the above posted are my favorite scenes. Oh, and one I don't think has been mentioned, Arwen galloping away from the Ringwraiths with Frodo in her arms... gah. I feel so incredibly sad that I don't have another to look forward to next year!
