Who confirmed it? I agree, but is there some kind of legendary director approval board, or does the FDA do it?

George Romero is not food; even zombies have that much respect for the man.

Agreed, and I'm excited about LotD. However, I'm worried about two cardinal rules about zombies already broken in the trailer:

A) Zombies cannot evolve.

B) You cannot use the zed word.

Agreed. However, Hopper calling out zombies by their unnameable name just seems...yeah. Day of the Dead is actually in my top 10, but not because of Bob or Bud or whatever his name is; if the focus cuts too close to the zombies there's a chance it might be crap.

I thought it was Bob the first time I saw it and that's the name that stuck with me. Day's underrated, I know. And I hope that Land won't be crap, but if it happens I'll grudgingly acknowledge it...and see it fifteen times just to make sure. I don't like smart zombies.

What about Bub? He was smart. Forget that, I know what you mean. Same here.

Bub was...entertaining but distracting. I really wish that he would have been evil in the end.

I like my zombies slow, plodding, consumer-like yet still totally threatening.

Well B) was broken in the original Dawn when Peter referred to "A thousand zombies" keeping the bikers busy in the mall raid. Hardly a cardinal rule.

Gonna wait and see about the zombie evolution bit. As long as they don't start playing chess I ain't gonna be too bothered.

Although zombies using rifles with any kind of profinciency has me a little worried. W'ell see. I hope he pulls it off.

Looking forwards to this lots. Roll on June....

Ah, I forgot about Flyboy saying that. Nice point.

I was all excited to be the one to throw that out there, but you beat me to it.

Day did touch on Bub being able to remember skills from when he was alive. But Bub firing a pistol and

an army of heavily armed zombies

are completely different. We'll just have to see how Romero explains it. I pray to god there isn't some massive "brain zombie" controlling all the other ones that they have to kill.

Heh, same here. I was about to start a thread on it a thousand times.

It would be cool if Land was definitively the final installment and Hopper said it on the last scene, as a closing line. That would make me smile in nerdish glee all the way home.

I don´t remember Flyboy saying it at all, but I´m rewatching Dawn tonight, so I´ll pay attention.

On second thought, I don't think he does say it. I think he just says, "there's hundreds of those things down there."

It's Ken Foree who says the 'thousand zombies' line in Dawn.

Night of the Living Dead was alright, even if it didn't nearly live up to its main inspiration (Carnival of Souls), but Dawn of the Dead bored the crap outta me.

Some directors I consider legends, off the top of my head:

Jean Cocteau
Rainer Werner Fassbinder
Federico Fellini
Sam Fuller
Peter Greenaway
Werner Herzog
Alfred Hitchcock
Alejandro Jodorowsky
Buster Keaton
Akira Kurosawa
Ernst Lubitsch
Terrence Malick
Russ Meyer
Sam Peckinpah
Nicholas Ray
Douglas Sirk
Orson Welles

Night is 10 times better than Carnival, and that's no exaggeration.

I think it is. Carnival of Souls creates such an eerie mood, while Night of the Living Dead is much more prosaic (to use a fancy word I've heard a few times but just looked up a few seconds ago).

For all that I love Night and Dawn, I think George is a mediocre director who happened to strike cult-gold with his re-invigoration of the zombie genre. He's a decent writer, and an okay editor, but his directing approach is, as he says, the "cover your ***" method of filmmaking.

I love his zombie films because they are fun, not because they are masterful cinema.

That said, I respect his DIY filmmaking approach--get a bunch of friends together and make a movie. That, and it's good to see a horror writer/director who tries to put some wit/social criticism in his films.
