hmm I think he just got his info from Jodie Foster, who I believe said they took everything when she met him at the barbershop.

nevertheless a very good point you raise. i mean hell if i owned the freakin bank where the only thing robbed was from my own *extra-safe* safety deposit box then i'd at least check it before a cop did a week later... not to mention clive owen let the ring in there assuming that the ceo would definitly not find it instead that denzel would?????
too much didn't make sense in this movie and it's very frustrating |

My reading of the situation is that the bank is effectively a crime scene for this week or at least for most of it. There is no reason for Owen not to leave on the first day the bank is reopened. Indeed he should leave as soon as possible since his hiding place, though good, is going to be found out fairly soon after the bank gets back into operation.
During this period Case believes that Owen's character has the key documents and intends to blackmail him. So Case is not going to do anything to draw attention to his precarious situation like ask the police if he can enter the crime scene to check his safety deposit box.

Agreed
I thought the same thing -- if I owned the bank, knowing I had incrimiinating stuff in my secret safety deposit box -- I'd be in there the first second I could. And the police wouldn't say boo.
The more you think about this film, the less sense it makes. Quote:

as for the incriminating papers in the safety deposit box, well, if i were him, i-d certainly keep a close eye on them...and i probably wouldn-t leave them sitting in a safety deposit box... |

holes in movie
i loved this movie. i have seen it in the theatre on four different occassons. but i agree. there are a lot of holes in it (other than the one they dug). denzels girlfiriend is anxiously waiting for him at the end. and i guess she could have been waiting for him a week after the robbery. but, cause he and she were talking about seeing each other a week before, on the day of the robbery, it feels like its the same day.
also, clive gives the diamond to denzel. but denzels character is such an upright person, i dont believe he wd keep it, knowing where it came from. someone did clarify for me why case didnt jump on the safetly deposit box sooner. thank you. i think the bank would probably be closed except to all authorities for a while. however, im not sure they made that clear in the movie. and its behooves me how anyone could not search the room behind which clive was hiding. |

I really loved Inside Man, but am I the only one who thought Foster's character added nothing to the film beside being a mean of moving along the whole Christopher Plummer section of the plot? The posters and trailers made her out to be one of the big stars of the film, but her character was nearly pointless.

And why would they randomly move all the shelves out of the way in an empty looking room just to SEE if someone might've decided to drill a hole through it and live in there? They never would. |

what they would do and should do is check the entire bank, since no one saw clive owens leave. checking all rooms, behind shelves. then someone would have seen the marks in the wall which would lead them to him. |

Maybe everyone is simply overthinking a bit
First of all I say the bank owner did check the box and jodie foster checked the box and it was empty. One of the goals of the robbery was to take this evidence, but I think after he had a week to think about it in his Dell prison he understood that Denzel was a pretty sharp guy and would be able to uncover the details if he put back the ring(Not Left the ring) in the box. Remember before he left his mini condo in the bank his crew told him that Denzel was entering the bank. He had to know he know had an opportunity to leave the ring with Denzel finding it. So he simply used the same method to get into 392 and left the ring with a note. I actually think this is fairly clear because up until he enters his getaway car the whole crew thought he had taken the ring so it suggests that putting the ring back was a last minute move.
Oh and whether Denzel keeps the diamond or not we do not know. He realizes he has the diamond only when he gets home. He could have given it back the next day or simply kept it. Nor do we know how stand up a guy Denzel is....The $140,000 showed up.....Jodie Foster could have made sure the $ showed up with a deal with Denzel or they could have found the actual $. I think there are much less holes then people think and it is simply open to interpretation. Excellent Movie. |

This movie really had no plotholes, just takes some listening and perhaps a second viewing. |
