Graduated from drama school in Manhattan. Her stage credits include the bilingual operetta, "The Barber of Seville", and the play "Bellyfruit" at LATC's Mainstage. "Bellyfruit" was performed as a benefit for Gramercy Housing Group which provides housing for young mothers and their babies. After a performance, Herrera was invited to audition for her first feature film role. She then starred in Blue Rodeo (1996) (TV) with Ann-Margret and Kris Kristofferson. Her great grandfather was a chief of police of Española, New Mexico. Her mother is a kindergarten teacher. Her dad plastered houses for a living. She performed as a dancer growing up and was an engineering intern at Sandia National Labs during high school.
