Addison Wayne Russell was born on Jan. 23, 1994 in Pace, FL. During high school, Russell played both baseball and football at a varsity level, excelling at the former to the point of earning national recognition. Though he originally intended to attend and play ball for Auburn University, upon graduation from high school in 2012, Russell was drafted by the Oakland Athletics; he accepted the proposal, and was positioned on the Minor League farm teams the Arizona League Athletics and then the Vermont Lake Monsters in the interim period. In late 2014, he graduated to Major League play when he was traded by Oakland to the Chicago Cubs. After establishing great promise throughout the 2015 athletic season, Russell had an especially impressive sophomore year with the organization. He played starting shortstop for the Cubs during the 2016 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, and then went on to participate in the 2016 World Series against the Cleveland Indians. In the sixth game of the World Series, Russell hit a grand slam, helping the Cubs to win the game with nine runs to the Indians' three.
