A.J. Langer was intrigued by acting from the age of five, but it was a high school algebra teacher who gave her the little push she needed to get into the business. Langer first found success playing young teens on television, but as she matured, switched to feature films. To millions, she is best known for having played the free-spirited but troubled Rayanne on the short-lived but highly acclaimed ABC drama My So-Called Life (1992-1993). She was born Allison Joy Langer in Columbus, OH, but raised in Southern California's San Fernando Valley, where her father worked as a retailer of formal wear and her mother, an audiologist, owned a hearing aid business. She received her nickname at age five, when she played on an all-boy little league team. Her teammates thought Allison too girly a name and so shortened it to the cooler-sounding A.J. She entered show business in ninth grade, after the math teacher spotted her during a speech contest. Impressed by Langer's gift for gab, the teacher pulled some strings with an agent and got her signed up. Her first role was that of Melissa Drexell, Dabney Coleman's daughter in the short-lived Fox sitcom Drexell's Class (1991-1992). The same year, she made her feature film debut playing Alice in Wes Craven's The People Under the Stairs (1992). Langer was also busy making television guest-starring appearances on series such as Blossom and The Wonder Years, and playing small roles in a few television movies.Portraying Rayanne Graff on My So-Called Life made Langer a cult figure among the show's many youthful fans. With all the work she obtained, she dropped out of high school, but she later earned a General Equivalency Diploma. Following the demise of the show, Langer co-starred with Kurt Russell in Escape From L.A. (1996), playing the mayor's kidnapped daughter Utopia, and then played a supporting role in Meet the Deedles (1998).

QUOTES FROM AJ Langer CHARACTERS

Fool says: Don't be scared. You never seen a brother before?

Alice says: Never had a brother.

Fool says: No, I mean a black dude...There's black folks in this neighborhood.

Fool says: No, I mean a black dude. There's black folks in this neighborhood.

Alice says: Neighborhood?

Fool says: The neighborhood. You know, outside?

Alice says: Well, that's outside...not in here.

Alice says: Well, that's outside. Not in here.

Fool says: Everybody calls me Fool.

Roach says: Foo...?

Roach says: Foo?

Fool says: You sure got the names, huh - (Sees a doll that looks like Leroy) - This Leroy? You did this? Why you make these?

Fool says: You sure got the names, huh (Sees a doll that looks like Leroy) This Leroy? You did this? Why you make these?

Alice says: To hold the souls of burglars when they died. Or salesmen, workmen, other people who saw too much.

Alice says: (about Roach) - That's who Daddy's hunting. See, Daddy hates Roach because he got out of the cellar and into the walls, and now Daddy can't find him.

Alice says: (about Roach) That's who Daddy's hunting. See, Daddy hates Roach because he got out of the cellar and into the walls, and now Daddy can't find him.

Alice says: Mommy and Daddy looked a long time to find the perfect boy child, but each one they found turned out bad. Some saw things they weren't supposed to, others heard too much, others talked back. Daddy cut out the bad parts, and put the boys in the cellar, one by one. They get flashlights and food of some kind. I suppose they're happy in their own way.

Fool says: Yeah right. What about you? How come they haven't put you in the cellar?

Alice says: I do not see...or hear...or speak evil. It's the only way.

Alice says: I do not see, or hear, or speak evil. It's the only way.

Fool says: (about escaping the house) - Well I don't want in...I want out.

Fool says: (about escaping the house) Well I don't want in, I want out.

Alice says: Sometimes in is out.

Alice says: (thinking her "fake" father already killed Fool) - He said he killed you!

Alice says: (thinking her "fake" father already killed Fool) He said he killed you!

Alice says: (thinking her 'fake' father already killed Fool) He said he killed you!

Fool says: He was exaggerating.

Alice says: (to Mommy - her FAKE mom) - Go TO HELL!

Alice says: (to Mommy - her fake mom) Go to Hell!

Fool says: Alice, they're not your real parents.

Alice says: What?

Fool says: They're not. They're not even husband and wife. They stole you, like they did Roach and all the others. They're a bunch of rotten baby snatchers.

Mommy says: You have one of your headaches?

Daddy says: Ooh...very...VERY tense about this.

Daddy says: Ooh, very, VERY tense about this.

Mommy says: Alice has been bad. She's been feeding that thing between the walls again.

Alice says: No...No...

Alice says: No. No.

Mommy says: Remember not to bruise her face.

Alice says: (about Roach) - His tongue's cut out...Mommy caught him trying to call for help one day, and daddy had to teach him to...
