British supporting actor Alan Howard is primarily a stage actor, but he also occasionally appears in feature films. His movie career began with a small role in the controversial British courtroom drama, one of the first to dare present homosexuality in a nonjudgmental light, Victim (1962). Major roles include that of Michael the Lover in Peter Greenaway's The Cook, the Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover (1989). Howard is the nephew of distinguished actor Leslie Howard.
