A popular Bollywood director whose films were just beginning to gain international attention when he died of a massive heart attack in August 2003, Anant Balani had been active in India's film scene since helming Gawahi, his 1989 directorial debut. Moving into television work following his 1991 sophomore effort Pathar Ke Phool (Flowers of Stone), which launched the careers of Bollywood stars Raveena Tandon and Salman Khan, Balani stepped behind the camera for A Mouth Full of Sky, Indian television's first English-language serial. Despite his extended departure from the world of film, the new millennium found Balani heading up three films set for release in 2003 and preparing another set for 2004. In addition to the romantic comedy Jogger's Park, his thriller Ek Din remained on the 2003 release schedule.
