Bishop Briggs was the artistic alias of Sarah Grace McLaughlin, a singer and songwriter who took the moniker from her parents' home town of Bishopbriggs, Scotland. McLaughlin herself was born in London, England on July 18, 1992, but she actually grew up in Tokyo and Hong Kong, where she developed her passion for music. It wasn't until she moved to Los Angeles, though, that things really started to get off the ground for her as an artist. In 2015, McLaughlin was playing in small clubs when she was heard by an A&R man, who helped her to kickstart her career. She went by the name Briggs when she put out her debut single, "Wild Horses," later that year, but to avoid conflict with a band using the same name, she subsequently changed her stage name to Bishop Briggs. After it was featured in an Acura TV commercial, the song gained a whole new life on the charts in 2016. Her second single, "River," ended up becoming even more successful, entering the Top 10 on the American rock charts. Appearing on TV in the U.S. and playing a string of opening dates for Coldplay pumped up Briggs' visibility even further. In November of 2016, Island Records released Briggs' self-titled debut EP. The following year, her profile received an additional bump when she was tapped to be part of the lineup for the Coachella festival.
