Nicknamed "Miracle Boy" for his ability to complete death-defying stunts. In 1993, was hit by a drunk driver while crossing the street and suffered a fractured skull and torn shoulder, but was able to recover and ride BMX again. Went on to win 24 X Games medals from 1995 to 2009, including 14 golds. His medals total was a record until surpassed by Bob Burnquist in 2013. Established a 15,000-foot BMX training center in Greenville, N.C., luring over a dozen other top riders to what he called "Protown." Hosted MTV's Real World/Road Rules: The Inferno for two seasons. In 2006, he started his own bike company called MirraCo. Had his own video game series, Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX. Took up triathlon racing in 2013.
