Prolific and versatile composer David Schwartz has worked (mostly) in television since the early 1990s, when he arranged music for several episodes of "Beverly Hills, 90210" and a few other programs. His big break, though, came when he was hired to create music for the quirky cult television show "Northern Exposure." Schwartz worked on the show for its entire six-year run. His theme song for the show was nominated for a Grammy award. Although Schwartz's output on "Northern Exposure" is arguably his most well-known work, he has had much success providing lively themes and incidental music for such television sitcoms as "The Ellen Show," "Arrested Development," "Rules of Engagement," and "Reaper," frequently enriching the comic timing of their writers, directors, and performers. He has also scored music for the animated series "Sit Down Shut Up" and the critically acclaimed HBO Western series "Deadwood," for which he garnered an Emmy nomination. Schwartz's feature-film work has been relatively sparse, but his driving score for the documentary "Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson" is memorable.
