A teenage clapper boy in the mid '40s, Davis served in Britain's Army Film Unit and came back to the film industry as a cameraman. He helmed shorts in the '50s, and in the early '60s was camera operator on Tony Richardson's A Taste of Honey, The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner, and Tom Jones. He began directing features in 1964 with The Girl with Green Eyes, teaming actresses Rita Tushingham and Lynn Redgrave; he'd also direct them in the comedy Smashing Time. Davis stopped directing in the '70s, but returned in 1981 with the Ray Harryhausen adventure/fantasy Clash of the Titans. He has worked in television since the mid '80s.
