American screenwriter Dorothy Howell began her Hollywood career in 1924. Within a few years, she was appointed head scenarist at fledgling Columbia Pictures Corporation--the first of many women put in executive positions by Columbia's president Harry Cohn. Among many other projects, Howell contributed to the screenplays of Frank Capra's Donovan Affair (1929), Dirigible (1931), Platinum Blonde (1931) and Miracle Woman (1931). Dorothy Howell remained at Columbia until her retirement in 1935.
