Elvy Yost was an American actress who landed her breakout role in 2016 when she joined the cast of the Shonda Rhimes-produced mystery series "The Catch" (ABC, 2016- ). Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Yost grew up knowing exactly what she wanted to be when she grew up - an actress. Of course, it always helped that she was practically surrounded by the entertainment industry, living only a short bus ride away from movie studios like Paramount, Universal and Sony. Despite growing up in L.A., however, Yost waited to start auditioning for film and TV roles, choosing instead to live a relatively normal life as a teenage girl. It was not until her early 20s that she started auditioning in earnest. Before long she was landing guest spots on shows like "Cold Case" (CBS, 2003-2010) and "Southland" (NBC/TNT, 2009-2013), as well as a small recurring part on the hit NBC comedy "The Office" (2005-2013). Yost's first big break came in 2011 when she nabbed a small recurring part in the Todd Haynes-directed mini-series "Mildred Pierce" (HBO, 2011). "Mildred Pierce" was a hit with critics and went on to win five Primetime Emmys, thus establishing Yost as a serious young actress to watch. She followed that performance up with roles in the films "Brightest Star" and "Oldboy," both of which were released in 2013. In 2016 Yost landed her biggest role to date when she was cast in the Shonda Rhimes-produced mystery series "The Catch." Yost played Sophie Novak on the show, which premiered its second season in early 2017. 2017 was also the year Yost co-starred in the Netflix biographical drama "A Futile & Stupid Gesture" (2017). That film, directed by David Wain, told the story of Doug Kenney, the creator of National Lampoon Magazine who died suddenly after falling off a cliff in Hawaii in 1980.
