Undrafted, but played for the Philadelphia Eagles (1977-1986), Los Angeles Rams (1986) and Atlanta Falcons (1986). In 1978, picked up a botched handoff between New York Giants QB Joe Pisarcik and RB Larry Csonka in the closing seconds of a game in East Rutherford, NJ, and returned the ball 26 yards for a touchdown to give the Eagles a 19-17 win, dubbed in Philadelphia as the "Miracle at the Meadowlands."  (To fans of the Giants, it was "the fumble.")  In 1985, created the Herm Edwards Youth Foundation, which assists underprivileged children. Edwards' father met his wife in post-WWII Germany; his mother told Carmel magazine that she wasn't too keen on her son's interest in the gridiron and his intense attention to televised games: "I didn't know football. It seemed so dangerous; In Germany we only had soccer." Was head coach of the New York Jets before taking on head coach duties with the Kansas City Chiefs, who fired him in 2009. He led his teams to four postseason berths. The same year, he joined ESPN as a football analyst.
