Telenovela actor Jorge Salinas had early aspirations of becoming an airplane pilot before beginning his acting career in the 1983 film Viva El Chubasco. The Mexico City native followed up his debut with a string of supporting roles in telenovelas such as Cadenas de amargura and Mujer, casos de la vida real. Salinas returned to the big screen in 1999 with a lead role Sexo, pudor y lágrimas (Sex, Shame & Tears), a film regarded as an early work of "New Mexican Cinema," a rebirth in the country's filmmaking. 2000 saw his appearance in the drama/thriller movie Amores perros.Salinas parlayed his cinematic success into regular roles on telenovelas including Tres Mujeres, for which he won a TVyNovelas Best Lead Actor award in 2000, and 2008's Fuego en la sangre. He'd go on to claim the TVyNovelas Best Lead Actor crown again in 2012 for his starring work on La que no podía amar, a remake of a radio novella.
