It was through the efforts of young Julian Madison that W.C. Fields was able to purchase the orange grove in It's a Gift (1934). Madison, who had toured with a host of stock companies prior to landing a berth at Paramount in 1933, played Fields' would-be son-in-law and the classic comedy remains his best-remembered film in a career that mainly consisted of supporting roles in B-Westerns and serials.
