American country music singer and songwriter Luke Combs was born on March 2, 1990, in Asheville, North Carolina. He began singing as a child and performed with several vocal groups while still in high school, including a performance at Carnegie Hall. While attending Appalachian State University, he performed his first solo country music show at a local café. He self-released his first EP, "The Way She Rides," in February 2014, and followed this with his second EP, "Can I Get An Outlaw," in July 2014. His third EP, "This One's For You," was released in November 2015. The EP peaked at No. 24 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart, at No. 29 on the Independent Albums chart, and broke into the Top 200 chart at No. 150. Combs signed a deal with Sony Nashville, and his first full-length album, also entitled "This One's For You," was released in June 2017. It went to No. 1 on the Top Country Albums chart and No. 5 on the Top 200 chart. The album was preceded by the release of the single "Hurricane," which peaked at No. 1 on the U.S. Country Airplay chart, a spot it held for two weeks. It also peaked at No. 3 on the Hot Country Songs chart and at No. 31 on the Hot 100 chart. It has had sales of over 670K and has been certified Platinum by RIAA. The second single, "When It Rains It Pours," was released in June 2017, and peaked at No. 1 on both the Hot Country Songs and U.S. Country Airplay charts, and has been certified Gold by RIAA. Combs' third single, "One Number Away," was released in January 2018, and thus far has reached No. 11 on the Hot Country Songs chart and No. 15 on the U.S. Country Airplay chart. Combs has been nominated for a 2017 CMT Music Award for Breakthrough Video of the Year for "Hurricane," and for New Artist of the Year at the 2017 Country Music Association Awards. He won the award for New Country Artist of the Year at the 2018 iHeartRadio Music Awards, and has been nominated for Country Song of the Year for "Hurricane." Combs has also been named an Artist to Watch by Sounds Like Nashville.
