  • Joined ESPN for the 2010 World Cup as top play-by-play voice in South Africa, having called matches in every World Cup since 1978. Began his post-college career in journalism by assisting with Marshall Cavendish's "Book of Football" and working as a ghost writer on Jimmy Hill's London Times column. Entered television with the London Television Network's "The Big Match"; called his first-ever match (on Southern Television) on December 28, 1974, between Southampton and Sheffield Wednesday. Climbed the play-by-play ladder, assisting on ITV's coverage of the 1984 European Championship before earning main play-by-play duty for the 1986 World Cup. Voted the FA Premier League Commentator of the Decade for the 1990s by fans and football experts after becoming the passionate-yet-unbiased voice of Sky Sports coverage when it launched in 1991. Voices the action on EA Sports' FIFA video game along with analyst Andy Gray (Tyler's long-time broadcast partner).
