Joined the Army at 18, and later declined an appointment to West Point. Prior to forming Tool, was a member of the bands Children of the Anachronistic Dynasty and TexAns. Rose to prominence in the hard rock scene with Tool's 1993 debut album, Undertow, featuring the hit "Sober." Launched A Perfect Circle---a side project with former Tool guitar tech Billy Howerdel---in 2000, with the release of the acclaimed Mer de Noms. Is a wine aficionado and owner of Merkin Vineyards and Caduceus Cellars in Arizona.
