A well-known stage actor who appeared opposite Ethel Barrymore and Marie Tempest and whose recitals of Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf were widely popular, Danish-born, French-accented Paul Leyssac was also an accomplished translator of Danish fairy-tale author Hans Christian Andersen. An infrequent visitor to the screen, Leyssac played Baron Stockmar in the British Victoria the Great (1937) and the chief of the Paris underground in the Hollywood production Paris Calling (1941).
