A tall, dark-haired supporting actor who specialized in light comedy, Paul Nicholson claimed to have entered films with the American Biograph and Mutoscope Co. as early as 1897. If true, Nicholson was one of the first stage actors to embrace motion pictures, and that at a time when most screen "performers" were mostly second-rate vaudeville artists and rank amateurs. Nicholson's main screen career, however, came in the 1920s, when he played supporting roles in such farces as The Nervous Wreck (1926), Up in Mabel's Room (1926), and Bertha the Sewing Machine Girl (1927). His death was attributed to a bout with influenza.
