American screenwriter Philip Klein joined the Fox writing staff in 1926 and went on to work with John Ford on Four Sons and Hangman's House (both 1928). In the talkie era, he scripted a couple of the early "Charlie Chan" entries, the oversized musical Stand Up and Cheer (1934) and the Spencer Tracy melodrama Dante's Inferno (1935). He was evidently "downsized" when Fox merged with 20th Century in 1935. Philip Klein's last screen credit was 1940's Pier 13, a remake of his 1932 comedy/drama Me and My Gal.
