Worked in an advertising company before starting his work in film. Made his directorial debut with Hirer Angti (1992). His next film, Unishe April (1994), won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film. For Utsab (2001) and Abohoman (2010) he won the National Film Award for Best Direction. Only acted in a few films, one of which was Kaushik Ganguly's Arekti Premer Golpo (2011), where he portrayed a transgender filmmaker.
