Supporting actor Stephen Barclay appeared in numerous films of the 1940s. He launched his career with A Guy Named Joe (1943) and went on to specialize in action films and Westerns. Later in the decade, he emigrated to Italy where he furthered his acting career by appearing in such films as the Sophia Loren vehicle Africa Sotto i Mari (1953). In 1964, Barclay wrote the screenplay for and produced Dark Purpose.
