Is the youngest of 10 children. Suffered from oxygen deprivation at birth, which resulted in learning disabilities. Studied at the Edinburgh Acting School in the 1990s. Previously auditioned on My Kind of People. Sang "Cry Me a River" on a local charity CD in 1999 to commemorate the new millennium. Auditioned for Britain's Got Talent to honour her late mother, who had enjoyed the show and encouraged her to compete. Raised funds for Save The Children by performing a duet with Elvis Presley in 2013. Carried the Queen's Baton for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Became the first British artist to record a virtual duet with the late Nat King Cole on her 2016 album A Wonderful World. Gave up chocolate for Lent in 2016 to raise awareness of the Scottish Catholic Internation Aid Fund's Wee Box appeal.
