  • British producer/writer Sydney Box married his wife and future writing partner Muriel Baker in 1935. Four years and several theatrical efforts later, Sydney set up his own motion picture firm to produce industrial and government films. Muriel and Sydney won an Oscar for their first postwar screenplay, The Seventh Veil (1945). The collaboration continued successfully into the 1950s, with Sydney producing and scripting and Muriel directing. Without his wife, Sydney produced the 1950 melodrama Deadlier Than the Male. Sydney ended his motion picture career in 1958 to concentrate on TV work. Sydney Box was the brother of another prominent British filmmaker, Betty Box.
