British cinematographer Gilbert Taylor started out at age 15 as a camera assistant. He did not become a full-fledged lighting director until the late '40s. Back then he was known for his facility with both color and black-and-white photography and his versatility. Taylor's notable early work in Britain includes Dr. Strangelove (1964), The Beatles' A Hard Day's Night, and Roman Polanski's Repulsion (for which he received a BAFTA nomination in 1965). In the 1970s, Taylor became a solid Hollywood fixture, working on films such as Alfred Hitchcock's Frenzy (1972), The Omen (1976), and Star Wars (1977). ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi
