Crime Doesn't Pay - Rotten Tomatoes
Barry Sonnenfeld's $115 million hit follows the adventures of a gangster-turned-budding-film-producer in Hollywood, so it's filled to the brim with criminals -- and it's based on an Elmore Leonard bestseller, so none of them are particularly good at breaking the law. Case in point: Leo DeVoe (David Paymer), who tries to weasel out of a debt -- and pull off a $300,000 insurance scam -- by faking his own death. Sadly, he neglects to cut his wife in on the deal, so when Chili Palmer (John Travolta), the aforementioned loan shark with filmmaking aspirations, tracks her down, she's all too happy to spoil his fun. Remember, would-be swindlers: hell hath no fury like a woman scorned!
