Society, you've had it a long time coming. Heat waves, gangs, racist army surplus store owners, restraining orders -- how's an unemployed lunatic supposed to get some peace around here? Such is the dilemma of William Foster (Michael Douglas), a recently laid-off defense contractor who aims to get to his daughter's birthday party amid sweltering heat. Things are all wrong for Foster from the get-go (his ex-wife's restraining order against him and their daughter for one), and his bloody rampage across Los Angeles draws the attention of the police. A showdown on the Venice pier doesn't go down well for Foster, but he still gets in the last laugh.
