An "innocent" bourgeois American couple, a doctor and his wife, get mixed up, while vacationing abroad, in "foreign" intrigue, with a (pro-US) Latin American dictator. And not only are they "innocent", but so is the American oil company executive (who, however, lets them know that he's an "unofficial" US ambassador). (All the Americans here are innocent. Only the Americans here are innocent.) But still it's not as bad as it sounds. It's like a Hitchcock movie, but without Hitchcock, less stylish, more serious.

Interesting Richard Brooks directorial debut is somewhat of a forgotten Cary Grant gem. It's not a classic and actually drags at a number of points, but it's an intriguing story of brain surgeon Grant being compelled to treat a South American dictator of an unnamed country, played by Josť Ferrer. Like most Brooks films, it's intelligent and gritty, even if it is a bit slow in parts.

This film stars Cary Grant as a doctor on vacation with his wife in a South American country. But he is sort of kidnapped by a dictator in the country and asked to perform brain surgery to remove a tumor that will kill him. But he does not like this dictator's policy with his country and how he treats his citizens. He is asked by rebels to kill him on the operating table. But his moral code as a doctor forces his hand to save this man. The story was interesting and had many entertaining parts. Cary Grant is excellent as usual in his role. Actor Jose Ferrer is also quite good as the dying dictator. Overall this was a solid watch. If your a Cary Grant fan then check it out. Well worth the watch.
