Slow, long drawn out, and deep. Believable ? The plot is explained near the end, but hardly worth the wait. Don't watch this film if you are trying to quit smoking !

Simple, but always intriguing story for the mystery of Ray Winstone's character, although the robust personality of the prostitute he is obsessing with is also a strong element of the film.

Well played psychological drama doesn't make for brilliant by itself. No surprises.

I actually thought this was a Mike Leigh film - it definitely has that gritty feel to it. This is the story of a middle aged married man who starts visiting a prostitute just to talk to her and try to understand why she does what she does. You later find out why he is so interested, but at first he comes across like he's a pervert. Jan Graveson is excellent as the aging Naomi, who is at the end of her career, not necessarily by choice but by age. The movie does make you wonder what became of her afterwards. A good film that I liked, didn't love.

Not quite.
But another great performance from Winstone. He even has a go at a Blur track for the closing credits. An intriguing, little known, film with great camera work. Plus a brief role for Ray's daughter, Lois.
