another early example of a working girl with a career-newspaper reporter here.

Danny (Cary Grant) is a detective who is currently investigating a jewelry theft. His girlfriend, Eve (Joan Bennett), is a sassy women who works as a manicurist but recently has started a career as a investigative reporter. The two of them work together, from there respective professions, to solve what turns out to be a criminal ring of jewelery theifs, who are also responsible for the murder of a baby in central park. Big Brown Eyes is a very unique film in that its a zany witty comedy with a few quite dark thrilling moments. I mean, what type of comedy murders a baby? The dialogue is rather unique in that the characters essentially are never direct towards one and other, at least compared to most films. Cary Grant and Joan Bennet are just so full of energy and this dialogue feels so natural because of this. Both these actors have so much charisma, particularly in this movie, that you cant help but love them. Aesthetically is rather standard but it does have some fun stylistic segments. For example, there are three or so segments in which we are shown various characters at slanted camera angles in quick-cut rapid succession as they gossip in a beauty parlor about the current events which are taking place. It's just one stylistic moment which personofies just how playful, hectic and fun this film is.

Great movie with Grant, if you're a fan, you should see this one.

Decent blueprint for amalgamations to to come. Some comedy, some mystery, some crime-drama. A little bit a of everything on the high-speed cycle. It's been done better, but some unusual twists and some good ideas. Joan Bennett is particularly good here.

Just another programmer churned out in the thirties as fodder for the lower half of the bill but also used as building blocks for stars, this has two of the best with Cary Grant and Joan Bennett a nice team, a shame they didn't get to work together when they were at the top, they have a really nice chemistry with each other.

Fun to see Grant in his earlier days. Not bad at all.

Actually not as bad as whoever rates films for TiVo's summaries made it out to be. In fact, it was pretty cute. The only problem I could discern was that the crime (a random shooting kills a baby) was a little too dark for a movie with such light humour. And the whole plot point with Cary Grant's ability to throw his voice was just kind of silly. Still, it was a watchable film.
