This film is really beautiful! The cinematography is unreal and every shot is just like a painting! The lighting is perfect and on the technical level this film is achieving what most French production lacks, big budget and fantastic photography! Now the story is good and the adaptation from the Eugene Le Roy's book is quite good even though they changed a couple of things.... Now i don't think the director is a very good actor director and most of his cast seem to overplay, falling sometimes in the extreme of caricatural performances, the count for example is way too much, i mean he's mean ok but c'mon no one is that angry in life or at least not every time you see him! The kid who plays Jacquou is amazing though! Such a great kid, his adult version though lacks completely of charisma or even credibility as a farm boy, he's so skinny and looks like a Burberry Model not exactly like a dude who had it tough and worked in the fields his whole life! Nevertheless this film is really good and i was taken in from start to finish.... Trust me give it a go it's really worthy!
