Movie Info

In this western with echoes of High Noon, gunman Rick Martin (Sterling Hayden) rides into a small frontier town to warn its citizens of a pending raid by thug Quentin (John Dehner) and his men. Rick offers himself as a hired killer/protector, but the nasty and hostile town wants no part in this and throws him in jail after he's framed by Canby Judd (William Bishop), a self-styled ranch owner who has wooed and won Rick's girlfriend Laura (Karen Booth). As predicted, Quentin's gang does indeed arrive, and it falls onto Rick's shoulders to save the day.

It's an obvious rip-off of High Noon.

Audience Reviews for Top Gun

The original Top Gun. Worth seeing if you love the old B-movies. A tall, dusty gunslinger returns to the small hometown that only wants to see him ride back out - or be buried alongside his Ma. In spite of the chilly reception, he warns the locals that their town is about to be raided, and he's willing to assist in defending the town since there are all of 3 decent people, who've tried to defend his sullied name, still living there. Yes, it may be a twist on High Noon, but so what. It's a western. Average script, cinematography, and everything else. Might have been better if the story had been told from the girlfriends perspective. Watch for a very young Rod Taylor and Denver Pyle also!

I just loved Sterling Hayden's performance as a killer on a journey to redeem himself of his past. Its not really one of the best westerns that I've seen, but its still enjoyable to a certain extent.
