Movie Info

Snakes on a Plane director David R. Ellis follows up his high-flying tale of reptilian terror with this horrific frightener concerning a group of college students who discover that their dormitory was once a mental hospital presided over by a sadistic doctor. As the semester gets under way, it begins to appear as if the spirit of the malevolent M.D. has decided to remain in the haunted hallways in order to continue his experiments on the latest crop of students. Written by Ethan Lawrence and starring Sarah Roemer, Mark Rolston, Ellen Hoffman, Travis Van Winkle, Cody Kasch, and Jake Muxworthy, Asylum features state-of-the-art special effects work by Academy Award-winning artist David LeRoy Anderson (Dawn of the Dead [2004], Men in Black, and The Nutty Professor).

[An] utterly inept follow-up horror of a horror film by Snakes [on a Plane] director David R. Ellis.

A sort of cross between Stay Alive and Session 9, with a healthy smear of down-market horror moves copped from '80s-era DIY flicks that never made it off of VHS.

No amount of lowered expectations can disguise what a piece of junk [Asylum] is.

½

If you can manage to shut off the "logic" part of your brain, it's pretty bad. If you can't, it's even worse.

Weak story, terrible acting, cheesey costume design, and very predictable. Although some scenes were fairly graphic, it wasn't good enough to stop this film from being an unsmart horror flick.

Formulaic and, eventually, just silly.
