Phil Collins plays Buster Edwards in the film, it's not a role that suits him and he really couldn't act (as much as I love him). The soundtrack is amazing though.

My favourite singer and all round nice guy in a film. Love and loss comes into consideration in this knock out flick as we see Phil Collins present himself as Buster Edwards, the kind hard on his luck devoted father, not the criminal everyone thought when he helped to steal a million quid in 1963, this film teaches you not to judge a book by its cover and realises criminals do bad things for a good reason for their families, and that's what Buster did, I love the way they took a true life story about one of the biggest crimes in UK history and turned into a Romantic flick. I love the fact that Collins wrote 2 hits for this film and really do well pushing out the romantic side to the film, Larry Lamb and Julie Walters do a fantastic job as supporting Collins, Walters does a more than good job in being his on screen wife and really making this film work giving the event more sweet and romantic than others think. I loved this film so much I never thought my favourite singer can act so well. A knock out performence for a knock out 4.5 star film that is expected to brighten anyone's day

British film about a likable petty thief pulls a major heist of used bank notes from a train and subsequently escapes to Mexico with his family while most of his accomplices are rounded up. When his homesick wife leaves him to return home, he finds no money in the world is worth sticking around for. Really a love story and not a bad one. Phil Collins only adds three songs to the soundtrack but two of them were big hits that continued his assault on the charts in the 80's.

An odd, occasionally entertaining heist and aftermath movie with a very competent performance from Collins and a much much better one from Walters.

Not a bad gangster picture, but pretty formulatic until maybe the final third or so. Phil Collins plays Buster Edwards, a gangster who pulls off a heist of the Royal Mail train, then flees to Mexico with his wife only to realize he misses London a lot. Collins is actually very good in what he has to work with, which isn't much.

This film, seemed to drag on forever. Wasn't a big fan of it in 88'. Even lesser a fan now, There's better ways, to waste nearly two hours of your life.

Has low production values and a dated, tired look, but has an emotional core to it that works.
January 31, 2013
Phil Collins pretends to be a chirpy cockney bank robber who is completely overshadowed by Larry Lamb and Julie Walters.

Phil Collins gets his cinematic vehicle in this comedy about a man involved in the Great Train Robbery of 68. The film is really nothing more than a silly and even dull British comedy that perhaps only fans of the popstar will truly enjoy because of its novelty potential.

One of a series of period crime films that came out of Britain in the late 80's (see also 'Scandal' and 'The Krays') this doesn't quite work, probably because it's not sure if it's a crime film or family drama. The film splits awkwardly into 2 halves (in England and then Acapulco) which really jars and it never really feels if enough time is spent on either. The acting is fine, although Collins can only really do 'cheeky chappie' and has problems showing genuine emotion. It's ok but it feels wrong that the whole thing is presented so lightly when someone actually died during the real robbery (this isn't touched on in the film). One of those films that seemed fun at the time but isn't as good as you remember. Great soundtrack though.

OK British crime thriller based on those involved in the great train robbery. Shame that not only did they let Phil Collins act but also let him loose on the soundtrack
