Movie Info

Filmed in 1978, The Executioner is a blatant imitation of the Godfather. A mafia family begins coming apart at the seems when such intangibles as loyalty and fidelity are forgotten. Star Duke Mitchell (the "Dean Martin" counterpart in the old Martin and Lewis-like comedy team of Mitchell and Petrillo) also wrote and directed this mayhemfest. The film was released under a variety of titles, including Like Father, Like Son and Massacre Mafia Style. Apparently there was enough of an audience to warrant a sequel, The Executioner, Part 2: Frozen Scream (1984).

Critic Reviews for The Executioner (Massacre Mafia Style) (Like Father, Like Son)

All Critics (2)

Specific entertainment for a specific audience, and whatever it lacks in polish, it makes up for it in busted ambition, delivering pure, uncut Duke Mitchell to the masses.

Duke Mitchell's exploitation classic oddly enough stands alone as an outside the box, demented parade of mafia violence, and desperate attempts at irony.

Audience Reviews for The Executioner (Massacre Mafia Style) (Like Father, Like Son)

Lounge singer Duke Mitchell wrote/directed/produced/starred in this gangster movie about a guy and his buddy who take on the mob to gain power for some reason. The movie is a low budget violent affair that has its moments but not that many...what carries the film is Mitchell who will monologue and act his heart out, even if he was more confident in his ability to do so than he probably deserved to be.

Massacre Mafia Style (1978) Also known as The Executioner, and Like Father Like Son. OMFG!!! Since I feel that I wasted about an hour and a half of my life that I will never get back watching this movie, I feel that it's my personal duty and responsibility to warn anyone and everyone to avoid this movie at all cost. ;-) In fact, avoid any movie with Duke Mitchell's name on it. I know; he's the Italian Ed Wood, but that isn't high praise. This is a stupid, dumb, movie that tried to take advantage of the obsession we all had in the late 70s with the Godfather franchise. Duke Mitchell alternates between preaching about how terrible it is that Hollywood stereotyped Italian/Sicilian-Americans in gangster movies and exploiting it to the hilt in his own movie. He throws in a little T&A to try to keep it interesting, but the main characters (including himself) aren't all that great to look at with or without clothes. The plot has so many holes in it, that it just isn't worth the time invested. Avoid at all cost.

You know when you watch a trailer for a newer movie and it's edited in a way that the final product is nothing like it? well it's even weirder when it's applied to an old cult film. All the trailers and reviews I've seen and read of Duke Mitchell's 'Massacre Mafia Style' play it off as a cheeseball godfather rip off in a humorous light. Turns out this is a really well acted (mostly) grindhouse version of the Godfather. Though not as classy and not cheesy either it takes itself seriously through and through. There are jokes strewn about and a few unintentionally funny lines but it's sprinkled over hard violence (especially the string of 'hits' near the end) and a coherent, serious plot. Also there's much racism towards blacks in here, it's short and sweet at 78 minutes and not a boring second inbetween.
