I love the depth and diversity of moments in this film. Nothing is clean cut or black and white, nothing is really resolved.

Even at 86 min. it feels too long, but a good movie definitely worth seeing. Great time capsule-y portrayal of NYC as a twenty-something in the late 70's. Very blatantly an influence on Lena Dunham's stuff, but lightyears more palatable. And awesome to see Christopher Guest and Bob Balaban so young!

The pretty much perfect film is a minor-classic that deserves more recognition. I've read where Stanley Kubrick called it something like the best American made film he had ever seen. Pretty high praise and ever bit of worthy. See this film and spread the word.

Realistic and believable showing the insecurity of a young photographer in nyc.

Claudia Weill's past with documentaries is abundantly clear in Girlfriends. The film feels very real, especially in its lack of resolution and open loops. It works as a character study but not so well as a narrative.

Wonderfully wonders through the eyes of Susan and gives us a taste at a slice of life kind of film we haven't seen in a long time. Wonderful acting and at times flat out hilarious.

Forgotten gem unearthed courtesy of Suki. Packed with nuance and wonderfully real performances by Melanie Mayron & Anita Skinner (plus Eli Wallach, Bob Balaban & a young Christopher Guest). Stanley Kubrick called it his favorite film of 1978, and there are like 10,000 girls in Brooklyn who would go bonkers for it today.
