Let us not forget the other greatest "Rocky" in film history. Although unlike the boxer, Rocky Dennis was a real person. Eric Stoltz brilliantly conveys every necessary emotion despite his face. His face...the one thing that made Rocky different from the rest of the world. Doctors said he wouldn't live past diapers, that he'd be retarded, deaf, dumb, blind, etc. but he was none of these things. He was a shining testament to kindness and generosity, perseverance and bravery, humor and humility. Cher is phenomenal as Rocky's mother Rusty. She loves her son more than anything in the world-even herself. This is not a tear jerker. When the time comes to cry, the tears will fall free and easily, as anybody who knows the real story of Rocky Dennis knows how it all ends. But what a shining portrait of an extraordinary young man. He didn't live long, but he lived large, and he will never be forgotten.
