Gere and Basinger fizzle rather than sizzle in this lame Bayou thriller.

A truly great film --- script, cast, direction, photography --- all superb --- though --- definitely not for the tea and cake set. Richard Gere shines --- Kim Basinger is outstanding --- Jeroen Krabbe is brutal. A very well told tale of violence, revenge, love --- that rivets your attention from first to final scene. A definite must see.

No Mercy is a boring film. It is about an undercover Chicago cop and his partner who are recruited to commit the murder of a New Orleans criminal kingpin. Richard Gere and Kim Basinger give terrible performances. The script is badly written. Richard Pearce did a horrible job directing this movie. I was not impressed with this motion picture.

An average thriller down graded due to some clumsy dialogue and sub-par acting. Occasionally it slips through the cracks with a good suspenseful/action packed moment but they're far and few between.

Could not care any less about this movie if I tried. Horrible, boring, and a complete waste of time.

(1986) No Mercy

Chicago cop Eddie Jillette (Richard Gere) trying to nab criminal mastermind for killing his partner in cold blood, but has to resort finding the witness first who happens to be a hostess by the name of Michel Duval(Kim Basinger) who's somewhere in New Orleans.

The implausible set up is used only as a backdrop to the New Orleans environment, which includes the parades as well as it's customs. The first of 2 movies Basinger and Gere star together. There's only like one good gunfire sequence sometime during the end which is quite tame to what one can see these days.

A man looking for revenge follows his only lead through the murderer's girlfriend. The whole films is nothing but a vehicle for two hot stars of the eighties, and plays on sexual tension strategies that were laid out by the 39Steps, failing miserably as both characters are obnoxious and the film itself can only come across as cold.

11/3/2012: I've seen worse, but this isn't a good movie. Basinger's hotness is the only highlight.

80's cop-as-avenger flick with then rising stars, Kim Basinger and Richard Gere, set in New Orleans and environs featuring some sweaty PG-13 love action. Some of the dialogue is classic, especially the two references to freckles.

classic 80's action! Bound together in the Louisiana Bayou by handcuffs, HOT

A passionate film noir that depends heavily upon Mr. Gere to give it credence, and Mr. Gere delivers.

Pretty good. There are a couple of loose ends here and there, but it's not big deal as it doesn't spoil the movie.

I liked this movie. The action wasn't bad, and the performances were pretty good as well. Who would've thought that Richard Gere could do action. It's satisfactory.

An awful film unworthy of the talent of much of it's cast - although Richard Gere and Kim Basinger are pretty much as vacuuous as usual. Interesting only for its setting in Cajun country - it is nevertheless ridiculous at just about every turn - and the chemistry between the two leads seems to be missing!

Not the typical Richard Gere movie. He's normally more suave than this, but it was a nice change. Here he's a cop out for revenge after his partner is murdered and goes the normal berzerk route.
